International Packaging
Terra-S Flat Tire Repair Kits
Designing for international markets…
When redesigning for our international brand, Terra-S, the first thing we needed was space, which is always finite when it comes to packaging. I used the hierarchy of information to utilize the space efficiently, determining what needed to be translated and into how many languages and where we could use icons and symbols to communicate. By using symbols and icons, we were able to deliver a message to all languages more efficiently.
The Terra-S brand covers the Western European Union (WEU). Here is the process we used to manage this project.
Created packaging dielines
Defined number of languages
Collected information needed on packaging and its hierarchy
Designed basic layout
Determined what needs to be translated and what could be icons and symbols
Developed icons needed and collected universal symbols
Finalized packaging
This package had seven (7) languages with German being priority, so we kept the information simple and mainly used icons and symbols to communicate. We added design elements to explain a reason to purchase to the consumer.
